My life has changed in many different ways as of late- for one, I turned of legal age. But even more importantly The Devil and Daniel Johnston really changed my perception of the way I see the relationship between art and artist, object and creator, Man and God. I'm not going to get into it and don't you dare think for once that I'm attempting at conversion because that's as far away as my point is. Just watch this film and you'll know what I mean. I think there needs be some more exposure on Daniel Johnston, because his life isn't merely "The Story of an Artist", it's seriously a journey into the intensity of the mind....As a result I have a new obsession with mentally-struck artists.
Daniel Johnston: Walking The Cow
Daniel Johnston: Story of an Artist
Anybody that knows me, knows very well that normally this kind of music would have already been beat down by yours truly. I like myself a good beat and hipnotizing synth line, but there's something so beauiful in Johnston's extremely lo-fi sound and teenage voice....
On the other hand, I roughly compiled a list of the top ten tracks(in no particular order) that made my 2006:
Vitalic: You Are My Sun
Adam Skye: Ape-x
Petter: Everyday Balloon
The Knife: We Share Our Mother's Health(Trentemøller Remix)
The Futureheads: Skip To The End (Digitalism Remix)
Simian Mobile Disco: Hustler
James Figurine: Ruining The Sundays
Telex: How Do You Dance (M83 Remix)
The Knife: Like A Pen (Demo Version)
Happy 2007!
